Milan-Cortina-Tokyo (and back) with a hybrid petrol/methane fueled car

Almost 30,000 kilometers were traveled 80% of which with a methane or bio methane fuel. The feat was accomplished by Guido Guerrini and Domenico Raguseo, with the collaboration of the journalist Roberto Chiodi in the first part of the trip. During Covid – says Guerrini – it was difficult even to think to reach Tokyo, the city that hosted a year later the 2020 Olympic Games, from Milan and Cortina the cities that will host the Games in 2026. The feat was carried out with a Toyota C-HR offered by Snam, the natural gas plant owned by Landi Renzo and installed by Piccini Impianti. The object of the trip was to demonstrate how reliable these type of fuel plants are, even on such a long range. 24,000 km covered by exclusively using bio methane e methane. This gave also the opportunity to analyze and recover interesting data on costs and gas consumption. Even those parts of journey where the absence of refueling infrastructures forced to use petrol proved to be important so to allow a comparison between costs and consumption of the two fuels. Traveling using natural gas from Italy to the ports on the Pacific Ocean coast costed only 250 euros, despite the fact that about 3,000 km in Siberia were covered using only petrol!
