New car registrations on the rise again!

The car market is finally showing a positive trend. According to the data published by the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure in August there were 91,551 registrations, a +9.5% increase compared to the same month in 2017.

In the first eight months of 2018, the total amount of new car registrations were 1,365.947. This is 0.1% less compared to the same period of 2017.

The registrations show a positive trend for every type of power supply. After six consecutive months of decrease, the sales of diesel cars show an increment in August (+6%). Currently, diesel cars cover 55.8% share of the market ( July only 50.8%). Overall in 2018, diesel cars registrations have shown a decrease of 5.4%. In August 2018, there were more registrations than usual also for petrol cars (+8%). They now represent the 29.4% of the total market (the lowest monthly share since 2015). Overall in the first eight months of 2018 petrol fueled cars registered a  3%. Amongst alternative fueled cars, in the past month there was a strong increase (+26%) of LPG car sales, but in the overall 2018 sales the growth has slowed down to a +1%. The sales of methane fueled cars is also increasing. In fact, compared to the past August 2017 there has been a +4% increase , bringing the growth in the first eight month of this year to a +57%. Electric cars are the area that register the best sales trend both in the month (+87%), and in the overall period (+147%), but they cover a very little share of the market ( 0.2%). Finally, hybrid cars sales increased + 39% just in August, and + 34% in the first eight months of 2018.
